running a portrait special the weekend on may 24th and 25th. normal rates of $375 are reduced to $250. the plan is to shoot in gg park at various locations. please email me soon if you are interested.

on this blog you will find a collection of images that feel important to me in some way. whether it is the subject or the composition/lighting... something speaks to me in all of these photographs.

i am rebecca... my business is rah photography (rahphoto.com). rah stands for rebecca ann hutchins (that's me). rah is how i have been signing my art since high school.

currently i specialize in fine art portraits and super fun funky wedding photography. i also like to paint when i get the chance. one more random fact: i just bought a super 8 video camera on ebay... i really hope it works because i would like to start making fine art moving pictures… (stay tuned).

a little bit more about me: i was one of those freaks in high school who knew that i would be a photographer. i wanted it more than anything. i wanted to be someone producing interesting and compelling images when i "grew up".
after graduating early from a very small indiana high school … i moved to chicago, the nearest big city. chicago was great! passionately studied fine art photography amongst some of the most amazing photographers. i also did a lot of other fun things in school(like party!). i cannot say that i was the best student grade wise but i was determined and dedicated to my dream.

i somehow convinced the local newspaper, The Times, to hire me as a staff photographer. after shooting only film in school -- the newspaper opened my eyes to the digital world. i have to credit the late kirk john mitchell for my success in photojournalism. he was one of the first believers in my work and i cannot thank him enough for that. i wish he were still here and able hear me say the words to him one more time: thank you! fate had another plan... i will miss him and i think of him ALL the time.

life took another crazy turn while working at the newspaper. i meet a very sweet and interesting boy on the internet (that is right -- a random yahoo chat room). now, this was about 10 years ago, so it was not as common to meet someone and decide to fly across the country to meet them in person after only a month of talking on the phone (sorry mom and dad). i was still young and dumb enough to take the risk. oh the things i would do for love :)....

let's fast forward to the present. that interesting boy i met online is now my husband of FIVE years (holy crap) as of this weekend. our relationship is great. i could not describe a more perfect, loving and supportive husband.

and then there was three. we are so lucky to have the most amazing son jack. jack -- oh jack. i cannot even begin to express in words the love i have for him. i cannot tell you how important he is in my life. how much i think of him every second of every day... i guess that is what being a mother is all about.

this blog has a taste of these things... i do hope you enjoy looking through my images. i just hope you feel my images more than my words can describe. thank you.

ok my lovely brides out there...

i need to book a couple of weddings in the month september (this year) to complete my wedding season.

with that said: getting married? love my fun funky style? send an email my way because i am giving out a crazy special to all my september couples that book me within the next three weeks.

the office space is still a work in progress. some of you know that I had an external drive die on me a few weeks ago which I have been trying to recover. yes, a year's worth of work… gone. Well, thankfully not totally gone. luckily most everyone has backup copies of the work (reminder : re-back up everything you have that is precious to you).
good news: just got word today that sounded hopeful that most all will be recovered (fingers crossed and double crossed). this has set the office space back a bit because I was wanting to hang a bunch of recent photos up... the hard drive carrying all the recent stuff has put this a little behind. long story short -- hope to get things moving in the right direction this week and to have some recent photos of the space to look at. the space isn’t really much to look at but know that a few people have been wanting to see what has been in the works for awhile now. needing to work to help pay for the extra little things that keep coming up. look for some crazy specials to come soon :)!
